Luderitz and read more » the Luderitz Bay boast countless fascinating attractions and the quaint flair of a colonial settlement. For example, a visit to the museum and the Goerke House are highly recommendable.

 

Stop by the celebrated historic stone church build in 1911 and stroll down the new waterfront and Achat Beach. The beach is well-known for its sand roses crafted from crystallised plaster.

 

Yet another attraction is Dias Point. Absolutely obligatory is the trip out to the eerie ghost town Kolmanskop, hidden deep in the desert. In the old days, the town used to be the hub of Namibia’s flourishing diamante industry.

 

The fifty five metre high Bogenfels, which translates into Elbow Rock, is an awe-inspiring sight. If ghost towns fuel your imagination, you might also want to visit Pomona.

 

Board a sailing yacht and join a romantic cruise to Halifax Island. The trip is not only relaxing but also educative: The Island is home to more than 1200 charming Black-Footed Penguins.

 

With just a little luck on your side, you may also spot dolphins, seals and, in the right season, possibly even whales. Back on dry ground, a trip into the Namib Desert in the direction of Aus will afford you the privilege of seeing the famous wild desert horses from up close.

 

A last highlight for the adventurous: Join an exciting guided 4x4 tour through the Namib Desert’s rugged terrain to Saddle Hill and Spencer Bay. An experienced guide will accompany the self-catering tour but you will be behind the wheel of you own desert-conquering all-terrain vehicle.

 

The rough terrain makes the 140 kilometres an incredibly long drive. However, the route rewards you with stunningly remote beaches, ancient ship wrecks and some fantastic off-road driving experiences.
