The Mount Etjo Safari Lodge in the Damaraland is the first choice for all those that enjoy spending their holidays amidst the unspoilt wilderness without sacrificing sophisticated creature comforts and a private flair.

 

Set in the private Okonjati Wildlife Reserve, the Mount Etjo Safari Lodge was founded in the 70s by Jan Oelofse, a world-famous nature activist. Consequently, the lodge has little impact on its environment and blends with its natural surroundings.

The Mount Etjo Lodge offers 22 cosy and comfortably furnished bungalows, each with a large ensuite bathroom. Guests may choose between the categories Standard Deluxe Rooms, Junior Suites or the Luxury Apartments.

 

Children are explicitly welcome to the lodge. The design is characterised by a warm, ochre colour scheme and African art decorations. The resulting ambience is at once welcoming, cosy and exotically African.

 

Moreover, the Mount Etjo Safari Lodge boasts a barbecue site, the so-called Lapa, a bar, inviting swimming pool as well as a terrace that overlooks the waterhole, where the wildlife may frequently be observed.

A personalised, private ambience and the focus on nature enjoy a top-priority at the Mount Etjo Safari Lodge. The accommodation units are divided into three categories.

 

The Standard Deluxe Rooms are generously sized bungalows that feature either two double beds or a king-sized bed. The open bathroom offers either a shower or bathtub.

 

The Standard Deluxe Rooms are located near the swimming pool with a view of the waterhole that attracts the wildlife both during the day and at night. You may also catch a glimpse of a flamingo strolling the beautifully kept hotel gardens.

 

The amenities include a refrigerator, tea and coffee maker as well as safe to protect your valuables. In the summer months, the air-conditioning takes the edge out of the heat and in the winter a romantic fireplace radiates snug warmth.

 

The Junior Suites are considerably larger than the Standard Rooms and additionally boast a living room with a fireplace. You may choose between a unit close to the pool and one that is set a little apart, with a view of the gardens and the waterhole.

 

The name already hints at what can be expected of the Luxury Apartment: The elegant suite features a living room with a TV as well as a dining room, whirlpool and a small, private garden. Activities

The Mount Etjo Safari Lodge is not only a highly comfortable safari accommodation, it offers the additional advantage of being surrounded by pristine wilderness allowing for a first impression of the Namibia’s read more » diversity.

 

Of course, you need to participate in the exciting safaris led by experienced and highly trained guides. The Okonjati Wildlife Sanctuary boasts a magnificent species diversity that can be observed in all safety from the open safari vehicles.

 

The 4000 hectares large private reserve was founded in 1975 by nature activist Jan Oelofse. Today, the vast expanse of protected land houses elephants, the White and Black Rhino, zebras, hippos and rare antelope species among others.

 

The game drives are offered both in the summer and the winter months, generally early in the morning and late in the afternoon. During these hours, the wildlife is usually more active and the light is just perfect for taking terrific pictures.

 

An attraction unique to the Mount Etjo Lodge is the nightly lion feeding. Staged in a separate part of the reserve, the feedings are far from being just an exciting experience but are designed to protect the breeding Black Rhinoceros population.

 

Guided hikes are also being offered. Apart from admiring the local flora and fauna at a much slower pace and in greater detail, the guides take you to the ancient dinosaur tracks. Dinosaurs inhabited these regions approximately 230 million years ago. Another guided hike leads you to petrified buffalo tracks.

 

Filled to the brim with new impressions, relax by the inviting swimming pool or recount your day’s experiences on the terrace or at the bar…. while the smells of cooking dinner slowly start drifting over from the Lapa Barbeque. Just wonderful!
