Mombasa – Kenya’s City on the Sea

Mombasa’s white sand beaches easily rank among the world’s most beautiful. Today, the Indian Ocean’s warm water draws visitors to the city that was formerly a hub for traders and sailors from all over the world. The famous Nyali Bridge connects Mombasa Island to the mainland. Merely thirteen square kilometres large, Mombasa Island accommodates the historic Mombasa, which still betrays is long, multi-cultural history at every street corner and time-stained brick. If you look close, you may spot Indian, Portuguese and Arabian influences on the cuisine, the trades and architecture of the harbour city. Mombasa is a fascinating cultural mosaic. Start your visit with a tour of Fort Jesus. The stronghold’s imposing silhouette is unmistakable even from a distance. Set on a coral bank, it rises protectively high above the harbour’s entrance. It dates back as far as the 16th century and is at once Mombasa’s most prominent landmark and historic relic from the Portuguese occupation. Check the scheduled times for the sound and light shows staged here regularly. You cannot miss the Mombasa Tusks: giant tusks that have been arranged to from an M-shaped arch spanning the entrance to the city’s centre. A glowing recommendation goes to the Haller Wildlife Park: Soaring forests and sweeping grass plains provide a habitat for antelopes, hippos, giraffes and sea turtles. The park may be explored on several walking trails. Having seen the city sights, it is time to head out to the beach. Mombasa’s scenic coastline invites you to take a splash and a sunbath. And then, of course, at night a myriad of clubs, casinos and bars invite you to explore the African nightlife. The perfect Kenya combination: exciting safaris and the Indian Ocean’s white sand beaches! The “Bush and Beach“ Kenya combination! It will be a pleasure for our INTOSOL travel consultants to provide more information!
