COMO Shambhala Retreat at COMO Maalifushi in the Maldives goes hand-in-hand with the private island resort experience. Eight double treatment pavilions are set over the water, with doors that open wide so you can relax on a massage bed or in our oversized bathtubs listening to the sound of the waves and the ocean breeze. We have steam, sauna and Jacuzzi areas, as well as an open-air yoga pavilion located on the sunrise side of the island, with views of the Indian Ocean. We have a state-of-the-art fitness centre, as well as expert instruction in yoga, meditation, and core connection. Treatments are based on Asian traditions, from Thai Massage, Taksu and Indonesian Massage, to Foot Reflexology and Indian Head Massage. The overwater suites and villas are built off wooden walkways that stand above the shallow lagoon. Each has its own private terrace for slipping into the sea, while the garden rooms benefit from being set in the island's tropical heart. The views are consistently spectacular: either lush gardens, where children can play, or directly out to the watery expanse.
Garden Rooms (72sqm): Located in the centre of the island, shaded by the resort’s tropical greenery, Garden Rooms have an open-plan feel, and come with an outdoor deck and furniture for al fresco dining.
Beach Suites (101sqm): Nestled in the shade of COMO Maalifushi’s lush gardens, Beach Suites have direct access to the beach and are extremely spacious and private, making them ideal for couples or families with small children. The Suites have floor-to-ceiling French doors that open up on to their own private terrace with a pool, and the bedroom has a living area and an outdoor bathroom.
Beach Villas (116sqm): These one bedroom villas have their own access to the beach as well as their own private pool. Elegant, simple interiors are lit up with large windows to make the most of the island setting with French doors giving guests access from the bedroom to the terrace and pool.
Two Bedroom Beach Suites (131 sqm): Sheltered in the shade, this stylish accommodation space offers the same facilities as the Beach Suites but with two bedrooms. The second bedroom offers twin beds and a smaller shower room, making it ideal for families.
Two Bedroom Beach Villas (145 sqm): These two-bedroom villas (one king and one smaller twin room) have their own access to the beach as well as their own private pool. Elegant, simple interiors are lit up with large windows to make the most of the island setting with French doors giving guests access from the bedroom to the terrace where they can relax within their own private plunge pool.
Two Bedroom Beach House (178 sqm): The two-bedroom duplex beach house leads on to its own private lawn. Surrounding a large private pool is a secluded sundeck complete with sun loungers and furniture, allowing you to eat, drink and watch the sun rise and set from the comfort of your own space.
Maalifushi Beach Villa (296 sqm): Made up of two sleek, comfortable bedrooms (two doubles), the accommodation offers sunrise views out over an endless ocean. It features a private lawn and swimming pool with space for al fresco dining and a full butler service.
COMO Residence (356 sqm): The two-storey four-bedroom COMO Residence offers all the comfort that one would expect from a luxury COMO resort, combining endless sea views with a contemporary living area, spacious media room and full kitchen. The sundeck is completed with loungers and furniture–suitable for private dining, with butler service included.
Water Suites (107 sqm): These over-water suites are located above water and occupy their own jetty with spectacular views of the Maldivian sunrise. They feature a large bedroom with a living area and wide doors that open to a terrace with a plunge pool and direct access to the turquoise lagoon. The bathroom features a sunken bath and outdoor shower.
Water Villas (120 sqm): Each of these spacious villas has a private pool, sundeck and full-length windows overlooking the Indian Ocean. The bedroom has a separate dressing area and the bathroom features a sunken bath and outdoor shower. The large and airy sitting area can double up as a sleeping area for kids.

PLAY BY COMO SPACE: The dedicated Play by COMO Space is designed to inspire purposeful and creative child-directed play for children aged four to 12, with carefully-selected toys, books, games and art materials. The Play Space is open daily between 9.00am and 6.00pm. Toddlers under four must be accompanied by a babysitter or parent at all times.
TURTLE EXPEDITION SNORKEL: A short briefing will be given about the turtle species around the island, followed by a 20-minute boat ride to a beautiful outer reef where you can see these gentle creatures, as well as other reef fish, in their natural habitat. Turtles are curious animals and will sometimes swim close to the boat.
SURFING: In the Maldives, coastlines capture swells from numerous directions, giving consistently excellent surfing conditions. At COMO Maalifushi, we have partnered with luxury surf outfitters, Tropicsurf, for exciting adventures and teaching for all levels. A full time Tropicsurf guide is based exclusively at COMO Maalifushi from April to October. LAVADHOO SLEEPOVER: If you’ve ever wanted to know the thrill of having an entire private island to yourself, then this is the experience for you. Our uninhabited private island, Lavadhoo, will be yours for the night, with all the luxury touches to make the evening memorable. The experience begins with an evening sunset cruise, where dolphins are often sighted leaping ahead of your dhoni boat. When you arrive at Lavadhoo, enjoy an elegant barbecue by the ocean, with an assortment of salads, grilled meat, fresh fish, sweet treats and Champagne.
DOLPHIN CRUISE: Watch wild dolphins as they migrate in pods through our atoll. Sometimes the dolphins will jump out of the water to showcase their acrobatic spills, or come up close to surf the boat’s bow waves. As you watch all this you can enjoy the beautiful sunset panorama, sip Champagne and feast on a gourmet canapé platter.
DIVING AT COMO MAALIFUSHI: COMO Maalifushi offers one of the greatest underwater regions on the planet, thanks to the remote location of our resort, the sheer abundance of marine life and clear visibility of the water. 25 sites in the Thaa Atoll have been chronicled, but there are numerous unexplored channels and reefs – the waters provide for divers of all abilities. Along with our professional guides, our resident marine biologist can also accompany you to explain about the surrounding flora and fauna. For solo dives, all divers are required to hold an International SCUBA diving license, which you will be asked to provide along with your logbook. For beginners looking to learn, we have professional guides on-hand and a range of PADI-approved diving courses for those wishing to acquire their SCUBA license while at the resort.
