Located perfectly in the middle of the Chobe National Park, which is famous for its huge herds of buffaloes and elephants, lies the Savute Safari Lodge. Where at other lodges you need to venture deep into the bush to spot wildlife, at the Savute Safari Lodge you might literally find lions on your doorstep. In the past, the lodge's guests occasionally had to share the pool with the resident lions. They are often around in the early mornings, playing on the grass or drinking from the pool. Mealtimes at Savute are a delicious matter. The scrumptious specialities include sensationally fresh salads served with tortillas and bobotie, with freshly baked cornbread on the side. The menu changes daily.

 

The exotic dishes feature such exceptional items as smoked ostrich salad, guinea fowl casserole, roasted game and Seswaa, a delicious traditional meal made from ground beef, served with cornmeal, beans, wild spinach and butternut pumpkin. What a culinary adventure!

 

During the dry season from May until October, the most frequently spotted wildlife includes elephants, antelopes, ostriches, kudus and lions at close range, as they stay close to the remaining waterholes in the area.

Living

Hidden between ancient camelthorn trees on the bank of the Savute Channel, the Savute Safari Lodge offers only twelve double bed suites. The maximum number of guests is thus limited to comfortable 24 visitors read more » at once.

 

The chalets are decorated in a timeless fashion, with local wood, thatched-roofs and plenty of glass – well suited both for dry and hot weather. The spacious suites feature panorama glass doors opening onto a big balcony and finely appointed bathrooms.

The Savute Safari Lodge’s main facilities include the lounge, library and cocktail bar. The bar is the perfect place to while away the evening hours, in good company and with a refreshing sundowner in hand.

 

Of course, given the exciting location, the lodge offers a game viewing deck. The dining room is separated from the main building so that it can be used as a conference room for up to 20 participants.

 

Even the swimming pool, with its raised teak deck, offers amazing views out over the river bed and the wildlife milling around below.

Activities

Safaris and animal watching at the Savute Safari Lodge are simply unforgettable. Savute is an especially marvellous area to see lions and other predators year-round. In addition, there are many other animals read more » to see, depending on the season.

 

Pure adventure can be summed up by a game drive in an open all-terrain vehicle through the Savute region, with a connecting drive further into the Savute Swamp. A visit to the Gubatsa Hills, with their ancient San rock paintings is also something not to be missed.

 

The Savute region is especially amazing during the summer months from December to March. At this time huge herds of zebra, with up to 25,000 animals, move through the region in search of fresh, nutritious grass. A view of this is breathtakingly beautiful.

 

You also shouldn’t miss the special chance to go on a Bushman-led night walk. Whether you’re hoping to see a wide variety of birds, night-time wanderers or nocturnal animals, we’re sure you won’t be disappointed.
