The name Arathusa is derived from the tongue spoken in North-Sotho and can be translated into “helping one another”. Certainly, your friendly hosts Hannes and Anina are true to this principle and have made it their passion to make their guests highly welcome and comfortable.

The Arathusa Safari Lodge is set in the northern section of the Sabi Sands Game Reserve and comprises no less than 868 hectares. However, the lodge management was able to obtain permits to run the exciting game drives on vast 4000 hectares.

 

The highly qualified and dedicated rangers will introduce you to the fascinating landscape and the diverse wildlife. The Sabi Sands Game Reserve, which borders the Kruger National Park, is world-famous for its superb Big Five game drives.

 

Elephants, rhinos, leopards, buffaloes and lions inhabit the reserve in unusually high numbers. And with just a little luck on your side, you may observe these magnificent animals at the waterhole right next to the Arathusa Lodge.

 

The nearby Manyaleti River is another magnet for the large herds and their predators. Safaris at Sabi Sands are renowned for the countless sightings of big game.

 

In fact, you need not even leave the comfort of the Arathusa Safari Lodge for great wildlife observation. The lodge’s open architecture frequently allows you to spot wildlife from your room or private veranda.

 

Alternatively, cool down in the beautifully designed infinity pool and admire the playful hippopotamuses enjoying similar pleasures nearby. The options of admiring the African wilderness’ sights, sounds and smells are next to endless.

 

Incidentally, when the lodge was modernised, greatest importance was placed on using mostly natural materials. Quality timber is the dominant material and helps integrate the lodge harmoniously into its natural surroundings.

Living

A natural colour scheme and elegant interior design lend the Arathusa Safari Lodge’s chalets their cosy flair. Settle in and make yourself comfortable after a long day spent on adventure out in the bush.

 

The read more » furniture is designed in a classic African style and leaves nothing to be desired. Dark wood and pastel hues create a soft glow and warm atmosphere.

 

The Arathusa Lodge’s ten thatched-roof chalets all feature a finely decked-out ensuite with a comfortable bathtub – just right for a long, slow bath reminiscing about your last face to face leopard encounter.

 

Or step outside, the sun caressing your skin and the wind tousling your hair, to enjoy an exciting outdoor shower beneath the wide African sky. However, of course, an indoor shower is also at your disposal.

 

For your convenience, a mini bar stocks a variety of refreshing drinks. Moreover, a tea and coffee maker allows you to prepare a steaming mug whenever desired.

 

The safe protects your valuables and the mosquito net keeps unwelcome visitors away in the night. A modern air-conditioning system takes the edge out of the summer’s heat and a heater drives the chill out of a winter’s night.

 

Your veranda frequently becomes the setting for a little private safari on the side: The nearby waterhole often attracts elephants, which drop by for a refreshing bath and a drink. An inspiring sight! Lean back and enjoy the show nature so kindly provides!

 

Or slip into the infinity pool’s cool waters. Just like the veranda, the pool enjoys a spectacular view of the waterhole. Apart from the elephants, hippos can sometimes be observed.

The refined units are set at a little distance from the rest of the lodge and offer supreme privacy amidst the inspiringly beautiful, pristine nature.

 

In fact, the Arathusa Safari Lodge is dedicated to providing an intense, all-round nature experience. For this reason, the conscious decision has been made to refrain from providing a TV or phone in the rooms. However, the phone at the reception is always available should you need to get in touch.

Ranger Jason and tracker Roy take you on exciting game drives in an open all-terrain vehicle. Roy is highly skilled at finding the Big Five in the vast wilderness of the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve.

 

In fact, of all the wildlife reserves in South Africa, Sabi Sands is one with the greatest diversity of species. Apart from the Big Five (elephant, rhino, leopard, buffalo and lion), Sabi Sands also boasts giraffes, zebras and more than 300 bird species.

 

A great place for enthusiastic birders: The rare Horus Swift can occasionally be spotted around the lodge. Keep your eyes peeled.

 

Most of the Arathusa’s rangers have grown up in the area and are truly at home in the bush. Moreover, it is a great pleasure for the rangers to share their knowledge and introduce visitors to this spectacular environment.

 

Listen to the exciting stories and nail-biting narrations of wildlife encounters. Learn about the flora and fauna and the intricate mechanism that hold the ecosystem together. The rangers are bottomless well of information.

 

Early in the mornings, guided safari hikes are being offered. In the company of an experienced ranger, track the wild animals on foot and enjoy the quiet face to face sightings without a vehicle nearby.

 

Returning from the early bird safaris, the continental breakfast tastes twice as good. Our recommendation goes to the homemade bread and the many regional delicacies.

 

South Africa enjoys its brilliant reputation for its exceptionally good cuisine for a reason. And the Arathusa Safari Lodge will take you away on a culinary journey to exotic tastes.

 

The delicacies are perfectly accompanied by a large selection of international and the finest South African wines. Sip the bottled treasure of your choice and enjoy the view of the hippos in the waterhole.
