The Savute Elephant Camp is located at the heart of the Chobe National Park, in the Savute region. Set on the banks of the former Savute Channel, it offers magnificent panoramic views out over the inspiring landscape, which is frequently dotted with the bulky shapes elephants.

Savute is a fascinating region, offering you the chance to see not only elephants but also large numbers of lions. It is not uncommon to spot prides with up to 40 individuals. Other mayor predators are also readily sighted: the endangered wild dogs, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas.

 

Savute is furthermore renowned for its excellent birding during the summer months (December through March). Additionally, the early San Bushmen chose the site for leaving ancient rock paintings as evidence of their life and culture.

 

At its centre, the Chobe National Park is a vibrant wilderness, a wide savannah area with rocky outcrops, which seem to guard what was once a marshy swamp scared by countless channels.

Living

Traditional African thatched roofs provide welcome shade. Each large, private terrace is fitted with comfortable easy chairs and a hammock. Just right for observing the local wildlife in all comfort! In the evenings, a candlelight dinner for two may also be served on your terrace.

 

The tent’s interior is luxuriously comfortable, featuring a spacious, private bathroom, fully stocked mini bar, safe, four-poster bed with mosquito net and a state-of-the-art air-conditioning system.

 

The twelve canvas tents are equipped with large double beds. The thatched roofs are the ideal construction for the Tanzanian desert winds. The ambience is spacious, the highlight being the private terrace commanding a stunning view across the old channel.

Activities

Despite the plentiful sightings from the camp’s comfortable facilities, do not miss the opportunity to go on safari with the experienced rangers. Safaris are conducted either in open landrovers or in the form of guided safari hikes.
