Even the tea is produced locally: A variety of herbs grown and dried onsite are used to create delicious blends. The Takaro Lodge is set about 32 kilometres from Te Anau and 50 kilometres from the Doubtful Sound.

In total, the Takaro Lodge offers ten luxurious chalets, which have all been constructed, designed and furnished in harmony with the five Feng Shui elements. Colours, shapes and materials play a crucial role in the design.
Without exception, the roofs have been planted with grass. Five of the chalets have been decked out and named after the elements “Earth”, “Wind”, “Water”, “Fire” and “Metal”.
The remaining five chalets are the traditional units. However, underfloor heating, heated towel racks, jet shower and a Jacuzzi go a little beyond the established concept of “traditional”.
Room service is available around the clock and the mini bar and coffee corner allow you to help yourself to a cold or hot drink whenever desired. A safe protects your valuables and the TV and DVD player provide entertainment.
Of course, you may prefer to settle down on the balcony to enjoy the views of the mountains and the lush, green valley. On a cold night, you may cuddle up in front of a crackling fire lit in your room’s open fireplace.

You can do everything or nothing. The Takaro Lodge offers a range of activities – but you may also decide to spend a day daydreaming or burying yourself in a good book.

Stroll the pristine forest at your leisure or set out exploring on horseback. Alternatively, cast hook, line and sinker into the river or Lake Te Anau to catch some dinner.
Then there are the unforgettable highlights: A light aircraft or helicopter may take you on a scenic flight to admire the striking panoramas from the air that keep your camera clicking.
In the winter months, the helicopter may also drop you off high up in the mountains to lay down the first skiing tracks on an untouched mountain side – every truly enthusiastic skiers dream!
Those who enjoy the gentleman’s sport golf may whack a ball or two across the greens of the Te Anau golf course. Or send some spray flying on a jet boat tour. Changing back down a gear, visit the charming towns Milford and Doubtful.
