A former working farm, the main limestone read more » building dates back to 1858 – the historic centrepiece that lends the Grasmere Lodge its distinctive flair. The turbulent events of history and decades brought many changes until the farm was converted into a hotel in 1994.

 

Apart from the long history of the house, the owner Tom Butler is especially proud of the Green Globe Benchmarked Certificate, which officially attests that the lodge is complying with the strictest sustainability directives.

 

A glowing recommendation also goes to the Grasmere Lodge’s exquisite cuisine. Having been personally welcomed to the lodge by Tom Butler, you are invited to a courtesy cocktail.

 

In the summer months, the doors to the blossoming garden swing wide open and you may proceed to enjoy a delicious open-air dinner. In the colder months, a crackling fire is lit in the large lounge.

 

Generally, all of the Grasmere Lodge’s guests are accommodated around one large table like a big family. However, on your request, a private dinner may also be arranged.

 

Throughout the rest of the day, the cosy lounge is the perfect place to chat to the other guests or sip a steaming mug of tea or coffee. Feel free to demonstrate your skills on the lobby’s old piano!

Living

No matter your choice, every unit boats a large and cosy bed and a sitting corner with comfortable armchairs. Play some soft music on the CD-player, help yourself to a refreshing drink from the mini bar and step out onto your private patio.

 

The patio quickly becomes a favourite spot for enjoying the mountain scenery and crisp, clean air. Settle down and indulge in freshly brewed coffee, delicious cookies or fine sherry.

 

Praise also goes to the finely appointed bathrooms complete with a Jacuzzi, separate shower and underfloor heating. The interior design picks up the colours of the surrounding wilderness and select pieces of art create individual flair.

 

The Lake View Deluxe Rooms leave nothing to be desired on generous thirty seven square metres. Kick back and relax, eyes resting on Lake Grasmere and the Puketeraki Mountains in the distance.

 

Spacious sixty five square metres large, the Grasmere Junior Suite feature such extravagant details like an open fireplace and walk-in wardrobe. The Mountain View Junior Suites are almost as large, offering refined comforts on eighty four square metres.

 

Set at a little distance from the main lodge, the Chalet is scenically set beneath soaring pine trees. And the most recent addition, the Riverview Cottage, inaugurated in 2004, offers plenty of space for the entire family.

Activities

Wine connoisseurs will delight. No less than five thousand finest New Zealand wines fill the shelves. The wine enjoys VIP treatment and in contrast to other lodge’s, the Grasmere Lodge does not allow you to dine in the cellars in order to keep the temperatures within perfect range.

 

Fine cuisine is not the only asset: Cool off with a splash in the inviting swimming pool or break out a sweat in the fully equipped gym. Fast car enthusiasts will be thrilled to learn that the Grasmere Lodge runs a Porsche House. Portable memories and gifts are available from the souvenir store.

 

Back to nature: Try to hook your own dinner casting a line out into the river. Alternatively, explore the pristine surroundings on horseback or tie up you hiking boots to set out on foot.

 

Fight for a match ball on the tennis court or surprise your loved one with a romantic picnic beneath a willow tree at any one of the nearby lakes. The lodge will kindly assist you with putting together a picnic basket, if you like, including a bottle of wine.

 

A steady hand and good eyesight are two of the essentials for clay pigeon shooting. Take a sturdy four-wheel drive far into the hinterland on a rugged outdoor adventure day.
