Wellington is set beautifully on wide bay that reflects the thousands of city lights. Doubtlessly, Wellington ranks among the world’s most beautiful seaside cities. Having preserved its laid-back charm, Wellington still boasts the delightfully typical wooden houses, which line the deep bay and cling to the the surrounding hillsides. However, at least half the magic of Wellington lies in the stirring friendliness of the locals. Locals and land radiate an addictive easiness. Quite apparently, in Wellington life is still good – and enjoyed to the fullest. Fall into step with the local life and immerse yourself in the wholesome ambience. This lust for life expresses itself in many ways, for example, in the colourful houses and charming architecture. Even the Parliament House is pretty, an attractive round construction, despite the sometimes very intense discussions going on inside. However, out on the streets, politics are possibly the last thing on the people’s mind. Walk down the immaculate streets or visit the gorgeous harbour. Soak up the flair – one or two days are easily whiled away in Wellington. We highly recommend visiting the Botanic Gardens. However, “garden” hardly does the vast park justice. Afterwards, walk down to the harbour for a steaming cuppa or go for a stroll down one of the two beaches. Moreover, Wellington is the perfect basis for exploring the southern part of New Zealand’s North Island. Nearby nature calls: both at the highly panoramic Rimutaka Forest Park and the Haurangi Forest Park.Those who do not mind a little more driving may also visit the Tararua Forest Park, which is one of New Zealand’s largest connected forested areas. And let it be said again: No matter where you go in New Zealand, you may always hike even the most remote regions completely unconcerned. There are hardly any dangers around, certainly no dangerous or poisonous animals. Just take care not to loose your way. Local guides may accompany you on advanced hikes and mountain trails. Travelling south, you may choose between a fast catamaran and a classic, although slower, ferry.It may be worthwhile considering the slower option as the ferry ride affords you with a magnificent scenery as you slowly move deep into the Marlborough Sound fiords with the destination Picton.
