Praslin -

Praslin is the Inner Seychelles second largest island, its hallmark being the Coco de Mer, a palm tree found only on Praslin. The characteristically shaped coconuts bear a striking resemblance to a perfectly shaped women’s pelvis and can way up to 30 kilograms. However, the analogies do not stop there. The Coco de Mer produces trees of both male and female gender. While the fruit resembles a woman’s sensuous curves, the male plants infrutescence gives rise to phallic associations. It is no wonder myths ensued to form: According to legend, in stormy nights, male and female trees rub together lovingly to mate. These days, the endangered species is protected. The Vallée de Mai National Park was explicitly formed for this purpose. Of course, Praslin also sports some of the Seychelles’ most beautifully beaches, first among them the renowned Anse Lazio which has frequently been nominated the world’s most attractive beach by numerous international travel magazines. Consequently, it also attracts the largest number of visitors. Those who prefer quiet solitude can wander endlessly from one secluded bay to the next in search of their personal Garden Eden. Praslin’s tropical paradise will not make it an easy choice. Hiking on Praslin is a rewarding experience. The island’s elevations are not as pronounced as they are on the main island Mahé, allowing even untrained visitors to explore great parts without exertion. The sea also features a host of attractions. Praslin’s coastline is dotted with a number of smaller islands which make the perfect destination for a snorkelling trip.
