Tailor-made Okavango Delta Experiences -

The Jewel of Botswana

A green oasis in the middle of the dry wasteland of the Kalahari Desert, with an almost incalculable number of wild animals. Crystal clear waters, idyllic palm islands, and luxury safari camps. Welcome to the Okavango Delta! The Okavango Delta, the "Jewel of Botswana", is the world's largest inland river delta, and can be described as the most breathtaking natural wonder of Africa. The Okavango is at the end of the so-called "Panhandle", and due to the region's fault lines, it is split into incalculable tributaries that flood the region once a year, due to the annual snow melting in Angola. The endless landscape of swamps, waterways and islands covers some 1.6 million hectares. This region supports enormous numbers of animals and birds. From the air, the Delta becomes an extensive labyrinth of waterways, islands, seasonal floodplains and bush. The secluded location and sheer size of the Delta kept the throngs of mass tourism far away. In this part of Africa, safaris are adventurous and special - not just from an organisational point of view, but also regarding the wildlife population. Add to that the spectacular landscape... every safari - whether on water or on land - becomes a unique experience! The Mombo reserve, in the middle of the Delta region, is especially famous for its animal concentration. Countless BBC and National Geographic television programs have been made here. A spectacle of epic proportions can be experienced during the African winter nights, as herds of buffalos travel over the dry flood plains. Packs of wild African dogs, which hunt twice a day for their pups, guarantee excitement. In the summer time, the lagoon is beautiful and calm. On the contrary, it is quite wild in the winter time. The Okavango Delta is made up of regions that are constantly flooded, and areas that are only seasonally awash (June to September). Because of this, there are so-called land camps and water camps. A visit to a land camp means focusing on spectacular safaris and visiting a water camp provides the chance to experience the majesty and wonders of the delta by Mokoro and by boat. Both experiences together make your Okavango experience complete. Therefore, we recommend a stay of at least two nights in both kinds of camp. The proximity to the Victoria Falls (one hour by plane) gives you the opportunity to combine your trip to the Delta with experiencing the wonders of the falls.
