Living

Find your perch high above it all at the EaglesNest Loft: The suite has been set atop the main building like an annex with a view. Generous 65 square metres are plenty of space to unfold and breathe freely.

 

The loft is equipped with two single beds as well as select, elegant furniture. And always the eyes fly back to the magnificent panorama. The huge window front allows you to rest your gaze on the horizon even from the comfort of your bed.

 

The bathroom is both exceedingly spacious and superbly decked out. At the centre, a freestanding bathtub draws the attention. Double washbasins and a large rain shower are complemented by tiny lights imitating a starry night sky.

 

However, you may also look up to the real night sky while enjoying steaming, hot water if you choose to step outside to the open-air shower. Just wonderful: the valley down below, the moon above and your loved one by your side!

 

The EaglesNest Loft additionally features a scenic terrace high above the treetops. And on your request, it is a pleasure for the EdgeHouse’s service team to prepare you a bed on your terrace underneath the African night sky!

 

One floor down, the loft opens onto a stylish lounge perfect for sipping a glass of South African wine in front of the crackling fireplace. The electronic gadgets include a flat-screen TV with satellite reception, Nespresso machine and a sound system with DVD and an iPod/iPhone docking station.

 

On a par with the Eagles Nest Loft where fine facilities and style are concerned, the EagleView Room is accommodated on the lodge’s wide front looking down towards the valley and the distant mountains. Again, the panorama may be enjoyed without even the necessity to get out of bed.

 

The entire right hand corner of the room features a paneled glass front that apparently floats above the panorama and the valley below. Absolutely stunning! The EagleView Room’s two single beds may quickly be combined to a queen sized bed.

 

The facilities leave nothing to be desired: Make yourself comfortable in the elegant seating area or unwind in fine style in the extravagantly designed lounge.

 

The highlight of the EagleView Room, however, is the large and ornate bathroom. Draw yourself a foam-topped bath and let your eyes and soul fly down to the valley and the Outeniqua Mountains in the distance. Throw open the windows along the length of the tub and let the fresh, clean air stream into the room!

 

On a fine day, the furnished balcony certainly is your first choice for a moment of sweet idleness. Alternatively, a flat-screen satellite TV, DVD player, sound system with iPod/iPhone docking station and Nespresso machine provide entertainment and a mug of delicious coffee.

 

The two Garden Rooms are located in the lower part of the building and boast a direct access to the EdgeHouse’s gardens. Once again, you enjoy a wonderful view of the valley and the mountains, however, a little less lofty but closer to nature and the gardens.

 

Both Garden Rooms are furnished with two single beds that are connected to a comfortable queen sized bed at a moment’s notice. The facilities are state-of-the-art and most luxurious: You can look forward to a finely appointed bathroom with a large shower, satellite TV, DVD and sound system with iPod/iPhone docking station and a Nespresso machine.

 

Step outside into the garden to savour the fragrance of exotic blossoming plants and to catch a little African sun. Two deckchairs for each of the Garden Rooms have been arranged amidst the green splendour.

 

Please note that the EdgeHouse No. 6 may also be booked exclusively including a breakfast service. It is the perfect arrangement for a larger family or a small group of friends. A private chef or butler provide additional services on request.

Those that prefer two-wheeled transportation may also take the EdgeHouse’s mountain bikes for a spin. In fact, the Knysna region is South Africa’s most popular location for mountain biking. The Estate offers a number of highly rewarding tracks. However, you may also extent your range to the adjacent estates.

 

Explore the Knysna Forest Mountains at your leisure, hike to the waterfalls and refresh yourself with a splash or take a kayak or boat out onto the Knysna Lagoon or River. The lodge’s friendly team is always at your side with a word of advice or to help you make arrangements.

 

The Knysna River is a prime spot for fly-fishing, a technique that requires considerable skill and practice. Guided fishing trips with the pros will introduce and you are rewarded not only by the idyllic landscape but, in the best of cases, with a fresh dinner.

 

It never hurts to be pampered a little: The nearby five-star Simola Hotel operates one of the best spas in South Africa. It is a pleasure for the EdgeHouse team to provide a shuttle service or, you can also request one of the supremely relaxing massages to be applied in the comfort of your suite.

For example, visit the Tsitsikamma National Park famous for the dramatic Storms River mouth crossed by a hair-raising hanging bridge. Or explore the Robberg National Park in Plettenbergbay and hike ancient forests with trees that date back more than a thousand years.

 

If you turn inland, an adventurous mountain pass will take you from Knysna along the famous panorama route 62 to South Africa’s ostrich capital Oudtshorn. Apart from the innumerous birds bred for their leather, feathers and meat, the attractions include a vast dripstone cave system, the Cango Caves.

 

Those with an appetite for the tingling thrill of adrenaline have the one or other rush to look forward to on the Garden Route: Jump off Africa’s highest bridge connected to life with a bungee rope. Try rafting, canyoning, abseiling, skydiving or paragliding – almost everything is possible.

 

Rather tranquil than terrifying, a sailing yacht cruise on the Knysna Lagoon is a wonderful opportunity to unwind in fine style and enjoy the magnificent scenery. Those that stay for more than five nights receive the sailing cruise as a courtesy – champagne and oysters included!
