Tailor-made Rotorua and Lake Taupo Travel Experiences

Hot Springs and Inspiring Landscapes

Boiling earth and simmering water – the Rotorua region is spectacular, certainly the New Zealand North Island’s great hot highlight! Countless hot springs, geysers and boiling mud pools demonstrate Mother Earth’s hot temper in a fascinating, mystical way. The breathtakingly beautiful landscape complements the thermal activity. Clear rivers traverse lush green forest. Deep gorges create thundering waterfalls and rushing rapids. Hike the extensive forests and discover powerful geysers like the Pohutu, which shoots a jet of sizzling water almost thirty metres into the air. And having tired yourself out, just soak in the natural hot springs at the Polynesian spa set directly on Lake Rotorua. Furthermore, Rotorua is the centre of the Maori culture. Their culture, arts and crafts are found all over the Rotorua region. However, the best introduction to the Maori traditions and customs may be experienced at the New Zealand Maori Arts & Crafts Institute. Among other demonstrations, you may enjoy a traditional Hangi, a Maori feast with delicacies prepared on heated stones covered with earth. The Rotorua Museum additionally has a fascinating exposition on the Te Arawa tribe, its way of life and traditions. At approximately sixty kilometres lies the picturesque Lake Taupo. The former crater of a vast, extinct volcanoe, Lake Taupo is New Zealand’s largest freshwater lake. The scenery is breathtaking, which is especially true for the majestic Huka Falls. The icing on the cake is the exceptionally luxurious Huka Lodge. Indulge in refined creature comforts and a perfectly romantic setting directly on the river – wonderful! Spending two or three days, if not more, in the Rotorua region is certainly advisable. Soak up the mystic ambience, unique nature attractions and enjoy a highly diverse activities programme. For a bird’s perspective, take to the air for a scenic flight out over the thermal wonderland below or as far as Mount Taranaki. The brave and sturdy at heart may also brave the splash and thrill of a white-water rafting tour with a powered raft. Those who prefer to swing a club on neatly trimmed greens may visit the Arikikapakapa golf course. Beautifully designed and set amidst stunning surroundings, the course’s eighteen holes (par 69) offer a challenging game. Lord of the Rings fans will certainly want to visit the hobbits’ home the Shire – located in Matamata. Some of the original shooting sites are still in place and a guided tour takes you to some curiously familiar sceneries. Talk to the experienced and friendly team of INTOSOL travel consultants.
