Phu Quoc Island -

The Gem in the South

Phu Quoc Island is Vietnam´s largest island, located just off the Cambodian coast in the Gulf of Thailand in the far South-west. The North and East of Phu Quoc are a wonderland of pristine jungle and soaring mountains – a most peaceful setting and a natural oasis for the weary traveller! However, looking back in history, it quickly becomes apparent that peacefulness was not always the island´s dominating trait. Just like the Con Dao Archipelago, Phu Quoc was also abused as a prison island. Yesterday´s horrors have become today´s educational attractions. The former prison has been turned into a museum. It takes a sturdy stomach to digest Vietnam´s violent history, however, certainly, this is a good place to start investigating. A visit to the charming fishing village Rach Vem puts you back in touch with today´s peacefulness. It is quite admirable how the locals go humbly and happily about their business, sharing their few possessions warm-heartedly with visitors. There is no electricity, but more than fair compensation for this lack of creature comforts is offered by the island´s most beautiful beaches. It has to be said, Bai Truong is a busy beach. Nevertheless, those looking for a quiet spot will certainly find it at one of the nearby beaches. Phu Quoc is perfect for exploring: lush nature, endless white sand beaches and crystal-clear water! Phu Quoc Island is also your first choice for underwater charms. Take a peek beneath the surface! Excursion boats shuttle you across to the turtle island Hon Doi Moi – a prime spot for snorkelling. Those that have been to Phu Quoc Island are unanimous: It is a place to fall in love with, the only trouble being that is so hard to leave. The peace and quiet amidst nature quickly becomes addictive. Phu Quoc Island is the just the right destination for a supremely relaxing spell!
