Strong currents may occur.The mountainous hinterland provides an engaging contrast to the tropical beach life. Numerous endemic plants are found in the mountains, first among them the famous Pitcher Plant, a carnivorous plant shaped like a chalice which is only found on the Seychelles at high altitudes. A word of caution: Many of the trails are highly demanding and should not be attempted without a local guide. Victoria is definitely worth a visit and, incidentally, the world’s smallest capital. Its principal attractions are the charming colonial buildings, the colourful markets and the superb botanical gardens. On Victoria’s doorstep, the St. Anne Marine National Park and the countless islands and islets it includes represent a fantastic day out on a catamaran, sailing for pure joy. An insider’s tip: Take the short walk down to the Sauzier Waterfall where a natural lagoon offers the chance for a refreshing dip amongst palm trees and lush, tropical vegetation.
