In fact, at just a few minutes’ distance from the Hemingways’ tranquil, suburban surroundings, the Nairobi National Parks wilderness invites you to explore the bush. It is a fascinating mix: lush wilderness all around. But cross yet another rolling hill and you can spot the high-rise buildings of the city in the distance.

 

Nairobi is famous for its Karen Blixen Museum, which does not only pay tribute to the bestselling author but also provides plenty of information on the early settlers. Not far away, the Giraffe Centre is a prime spot for observing the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe.

 

The David Sheldrick Orphanage is dedicated to raising and if possible releasing orphaned elephants and rhinoceros young. It is a fascinating experience to observe these big babies from up close.
