The Garden Route -

one of the world’s most beautiful coasts

What is it about the Garden Route that leads to its frequent nomination as the world’s most breathtaking scenic coastal drive? Is it the vibrant green of the forest or are the numerous secluded beaches with water temperatures clearly above those of Cape Town the secret? The spectacular mountain range, deeply cut by lush ravines and reaching down to the ocean, may also be regarded to hold the key to the region’s irrefutable attractiveness. The true secret remains to be discovered individually by you. One thing is certain: This holiday region offers an incomparably huge spectrum of very diverse impressions. Incidentally, the name “Garden” Route is not be taken literally. The term “Garden” much rather portrays the enticing landscape which can be enjoyed in any season. No matter what pleasures you may seek, the Garden Route has them. Whether you are content to relax on the beach beneath the African sun or are more interested in riding the surf or climbing the peaks … the options are endless. The adventurous should not miss a bungee jump from the world’s second highest bridge. A 250 meter drop is sure to set your heart pumping. Beginning officially in Mossel Bay, the Garden Route is located 400 kilometres west of Cape Town. From there it stretches east for 200 kilometres before coming to an end in Port Elizabeth. The highway N2 follows the scenic coast but be sure to diverge off the main track to discover the many attractions of the hinterland. Taste South Africa. Gourmets will enjoy appetising creations in one of the country’s many stylish restaurants and can sample some of the world-renowned South African wine. Eighteen-hole golf courses will be a highlight for golfing enthusiasts just as the landscape will for nature lovers and hikers. Venture inland along one of the many spectacular mountain passes and discover the semi-desert “Little Karoo”. Next to the numerous ostrich farms and hot springs the desert’s main attractions are the “Cango Caves”, the world’s largest system of stalactite caves.
