The Etosha National Park –

Namibia’s Number One Safari Destination

The Etosha National Park, approximately the size of Switzerland, is one of Africa’s largest wildlife sanctuaries. The park was named after a vast central salt pan, Etosha meaning as much as “great white place”. In comparison to other African national parks, the Etosha landscape is decidedly harsh, featuring only sparse vegetation. The upside of this is that the open terrain allows for excellent wildlife observation. Especially in the dry season huge herds gather around the savannah’s rare waterholes and provide superb photographic opportunities. Year round, a stunningly large variety of game can be spotted: Elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, springboks, elands, kudus and Damara dik-diks to name just a few. Birds of all species are abundant. Among them are ostriches and several birds of prey like the elegant secretary bird. Particularly noteworthy are also the Short-Toed Rock-Thrush, the Hartlaub’s Francolin, the Damara Rock-Jumper, the Rueppell’s Parrot, the Chatshrike or the Chestnut Weaver. Adjacent to the Etosha National Park lies the private Ongava Reserve. The pristine Ongava Reserve deserves mention because in addition to the Etosha’s diverse wildlife, it houses both rhinoceros species: the White Rhinoceros and the Black Rhinoceros. Adventurous nature enthusiasts will be thrilled to learn they can track down the impressive White Rhinos on foot, of course, accompanied by an experienced guide. Other species that can frequently be observed in the Ongava Reserve include the lion, jackal, eland, mountain zebras, impalas and a variety of other antelopes. INTOSOL has put together an exclusive range of fine lodges that allow you to discover both the wonders of the Ongava Reserve and the Etosha National Park.
