Addo Elephants National Park -

Walking in the Footsteps of an Elephant

At the Addo Elephants National Park you can experience the legendary Addo-Elephants. The Addo Elephant Park is most conveniently located for those who visit the Western Cape and the Garden Route because it offers the nearest opportunity to observe the Big Five on a safari in a big nature reserve. A visit to the park is easily combined with safaris at the nearby game reserves and a tour along the spectacular Garden Route. To protect the elephants, which were still hunted and almost exterminated at the beginning of the century, it was decided to establish the national park, adding new land to the protected area over the years. Today the national park spans a surface of more than 14.000 hectares. Next to the park’s main attraction – the elephants – you will meet other animals on the exciting picture-safaris. With a little luck, you will encounter lions, leopards, rhinoceroses, buffaloes, kudus, antelopes, zebras, warthogs, meerkats, guenons and jackals. More than 150 bird species inhabit the park and plants lovers will be amazed by the beautiful flora. More than 500 different plant species from roughly 70 different families can be found throughout the park. Not so much big trees but rather thorny bush thickets characterise the natural scenery. Schotia Afra and Portulacacia Afra are the dominant species in many parts of the park. Easily observed on a safari, the elephants have developed quite an appetite for these plants. However, do not take any citrus fruits to the park with you. Elephants are notorious citrus-lovers and can become greedy when they small an orange. The INTOSOL team has a lot more information on the Addo Elephants and will gladly share its knowledge and experience. It is a great pleasure for us to help you plan your individual safari. Call us!
