Living

Opened as recently as 2007, the Sossus Dune Lodge is the first lodge of the Namibia Wildlife Resorts Group in the Namib-Naukluft Park. As such, it has already become a beacon of ecologically friendly operations read more » and sustainable tourism.

 

Perfectly adapted to its rugged surroundings, the Sossus Dune Lodge has been designed like an African village that features a collection of huts nestling beneath typical cone-shaped roofs.

 

Natural materials were used to construct the 23 chalets and two honeymoon suites, the most apparent being quality wood, toughened linen and straw thatching. The result is at once authentic and luxurious.

 

The interior meets the high standards set by the design. The select furniture is characterised by warm colours and natural textiles. The small huts are all set atop elevated platforms and are strung up along a boardwalk.

 

Of course, the Sossus Dune Lodge’s amenities include a bar, restaurant and an inviting pool – just the place to unwind after a long and dusty day spent exploring Namibia’s great outdoors.

Another awe-inspiring experience is a visit to the Sossusvlei: gigantic salt and clay pans that framed by the towering dunes. In a wet year, the Sossusvlei may even hold several centimetres of water.

 

With the water comes the wildlife. Countless flamingos and other birds colour the stark landscape and create magical photo moments. Magic is also the right description for the early morning and late afternoon hours, when the glowing sand dunes cast long and ominous shades.
