When the INTOSOL team first visited the Ongava Lodge two aspects stood out and convinced us to include this superb lodge into our program: the refined ambience and the outstanding setting. Located on a hillside above a much frequented waterhole, the Game Lodge could not be set more spectacularly.

 

You might find yourself sitting on your bungalow’s comfortable terrace when you hear a telling rustle in the high grass. Take a careful peek and explore. Chances are high it is an eland or a warthog read more » making its way down to the waterhole.

 

Nature-orientated is more than a slogan at the Ongava Game Lodge. These intimate encounters with the abundant wildlife make all the difference.

 

The private Ongava Game Reserve and consequently the Ongava Game Lodge are located along the southern border of the famous Etosha National Park.

 

Thus, the Game Lodge is not only an ideal basis for guided safari hikes in the private reserve but also for exploring the sights and wildlife of the Etosha Park. Incidentally, the Ongava Reserve is managed by the celebrated Wilderness Safari Group.

 

The Lodge features ten air-conditioned bungalows. Built with natural stone and featuring quaint thatched roofs, the units integrate most harmonically into the natural environment.

 

The delicious meals are served either in the thatched-roof dining room commanding a magnificent view of the waterhole or on a platforms beneath the sparkling night sky’s splendour.

 

Further facilities include a beautifully set swimming pool fully equipped with sun loungers and a barbecue area for enjoying the traditional African boma.

Living

The Ongava Game Lodge features ten comfortably furnished bungalows and two luxurious tent suites located at a distance from the lodge to ensure maximum privacy.

 

Constructed with natural stone and select read more » timber, the bungalows integrate harmonically into the pristine surrounding. The spacious design and tasteful decoration based on ochre colours and natural materials radiate a relaxed and comfortable ambience.

 

It goes without saying that the bungalows are fully air-conditioned and include a private bath with hot and cold water, large bathtub and separate shower.

 

A uniquely romantic highlight is the option to spend a night outside the lodge, amidst the African wilderness, high atop a raised platform. A memory you will surely cherish!

Activities

At the Ongava Game Lodge, adventurous game drives in open all-terrain vehicles are the principal activity. The most popular destination is the Okaukuejo part of the Etosha.

 

The exotic wildlife is both read more » abundant and diverse, especially at the waterholes. Among the species that can frequently be spotted are lions, elephants, cheetahs, elands, springboks and red hartebeests.

 

However, the range of exciting activities does not end there. Nature enthusiasts may also discover the nocturnal wildlife on a night game drive, join a bush hikes accompanied by an experienced ranger or spot and photograph game from the specially constructed raised hides.

 

The Ongava Nature Reserve enjoys the great privilege to house both the Black and White Rhinoceros – either specie a highlight on any safari.

 

Of course, no way of approaching the wildlife is more thrilling than to carefully sneak closer on foot, even more so if you are tracking wild rhinos. A rhino hike is an awe-inspiring experience that will put your nerves to the test!

 

Located at no more than ten minutes’ driving time, game drives in the world-famous Etosha National Park are also being offered. Conveniently located, the Ongava Reserve shares a border with the national park.

 

At the Etosha NP, the infinite salt pan is a must-see attraction. As far as the eye can see, the earth is encrusted with gleaming salt. With a little luck, you may chance upon a lion crossing the expanse of the salt, kicking up billowing white dust, a keen eye on the zebras at the edge of the salt pan.

 

In effort to conserve the inspiring nature, it is not permitted to drive out onto the salt. However, even from the immense salt pan’s boundaries the sight is truly arresting.
