There are two restaurants at Mont Rochelle: Miko and the Country Kitchen. MIKO is the flagship restaurant, showcasing the best that Franschhoek has to offer. With its wonderful ambience, an open fireplace for colder nights and the breathtaking view, it offers a very romantic atmosphere. Excellent service and the soft sound of the piano make a visit to the restaurant something special again and again. And of course, the food: This restaurant was also named one of the fifty best restaurants in the world by Condé Nast Traveler.

 

The Country Kitchen is Mont Rochelle’s informal restaurant located just a short walk or a quick drive from the main hotel building and adjacent to our wine cellar, it is an ideal spot for a light lunch and wine tasting.

 

Wine tasting at Mont Rochelle isn't just a special event, it’s an everyday occurrence! On-site, the team cultivate and nurture various grape varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon amongst a few others that are used for blending purposes to add complexity. Complimentary wine tasting is included in the room rates so guests can sample these and even buy bottles to take home. The team also offer ‘cellar tours’ so you can learn more about how each wine is made.

 

When you’re not sampling the famous wines, take a dip and relax in the main outdoor heated swimming pool -there are some fantastic views of the Franschhoek mountains, or indulge in a spa treatment tailored to you, using eco-friendly Africology ‘Authentic’ range of products which are made from 100% essential oils and natural plant extracts.

 

The grounds at Mont Rochelle cover 39 hectares (about 100 acres) and guests are welcome to go exploring the estate and enjoy a picnic by the dam. The team at the Country Kitchen restaurant can arrange a well-stocked picnic basket with a chilled bottle of wine.

The entire hotel was furnished with great attention to detail. This love can already be found in the naming of the room cetegories being after the famous grape varieties such as ‘Shiraz, Merlow, Cabernet, Pinotage and Cap Classique.’ Each room is styled in the way to ensure the guest wakes up overlooking the best views.

Mont Rochelle has 22 rooms including six suites all arranged around the main building. There are four Shiraz Rooms with king-size beds and all feature courtyard or valley views. The six Merlot Rooms are larger than the Shiraz Rooms and also boast king-size beds with valley views. The six Cabernet Rooms include a private terrace overlooking the valley. There are also four spacious Pinotage Suites which each feature a separate lounge. Guests staying in the two Cap Classique Suites will enjoy a lounge, a private terrace and their own plunge pool. All rooms can be made up with twin beds on request. Rates include a daily breakfast as well as a complimentary wine tasting per guest.

 

On the estate we also have the exclusive Manor House. Made up of 4 deluxe suites, and a bunk room for children, Manor House captures that ‘home away from home’ feel for up to 8 adults whilst offering all the luxury of a hotel stay. Rates include all drinks (including top South African wines and South African sparkling wine, beer, premium spirits and soft drinks), breakfast and a choice of either a three-course lunch or a three-course dinner each day.

 

If the hustle and bustle at the bar gets a little too colorful for you, just treat yourself to a complimentary drink from the mini-bar whilst you sit on your balcony or even on your own small terrace with the attached garden. A stay on the balcony or terrace is recommended at any time of the day or night. During the day you can enjoy the wonderful view, in the evening the fantastic starry sky.

Pack a rod and spend an easy day on the idyllic Dewdale Farm set in an overwhelmingly beautiful landscape.

 

Another popular option is to simply go for an extended walk exploring the gorgeous surroundings. Stroll alongside picturesque vineyards, climb the hills and mountains, cross the valleys and discover an endearing side of South Africa.

 

The Mont Rochelle Hotel also offers excursion on horseback or by carriage. Kept at a neighbouring farm, the horses can be rented by the hour.

 

The best style to let steed and rider rest is to stop at any the many wineries along the road and taste your way through the area’s richly flavoured produce. At the end of the day, rest assured, your horse knows the way home.

 

Those interested in classic sightseeing, history and culture should stop by the Huguenot Monument or one of the museums.

 

Furthermore, the small country town Franschoek features a number of art and antique shops and galleries. It is well worth a visit.

 

On your request, every kind of excursions to any destination of your choice can be organised, a tour of the Winelands being the most frequently requested. Transfers or a rental car can be organised for you.

 

Having spent a long day out exploring, the Rochelle’s spa is the perfect address to wind down, for example, with a revitalising massage carried out by professional hands.
