Living

The select pieces of furniture were manufactured from local coconut wood and the roofs are thatched with palm tree leafs. The bathrooms are a designer’s delight and offer a flair that must have been inspired by the One Thousand and One Night tales.

 

Throw the windows open and allow Zanzibar’s fragrant air to flood into the elegant bathroom. Candles lighting the scene, draw yourself a relaxing foam-topped bath and cherish the fact that no appointments or calls will interrupt you.

 

A modern air-conditioning system in your bedroom keeps the temperatures pleasant on a hot day. However, a TV and radio are not available. The Matemwe is designed to be a hideaway to withdraw from everyday life.

 

For the entire time of your stay, a personal butler is available. The service is exquisite and most of your needs and desires are taken care of even before you can voice them.

The diving sites are as diverse as they are beautiful. Just snorkelling the coral reefs provides a magnificent insight into the splendour beneath the waves. With just a little luck, you might also spot dolphins or maybe even whales.

 

The Indian Ocean is a playground that waits to be explored on a romantic sailing trip or just with a kayak that will afford you with a spectacular view of the island floating in the azure waters. Or visit the neighbouring village and learn more about the traditional life of the fishermen.

 

Of course, some quiet hours are wonderfully spent by one of the two pools or on the private beach. However, when you feet become itchy we highly recommend a visit the historic Stone Town, which is about an hour’s drive away and was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
