Activities

A holiday in harmony amidst a stunningly beautiful setting: The Matakauri Lodge is just the right place! Set quiet and peacefully, yet at the heart of it all, the Matakauri Lodge is located at only 25 read more » minutes from the Queenstown Airport and seven minutes from the city centre.

 

Countless activity options ensure entertainment for everyone. Hook your own dinner and try your hand at fly-fishing or trout fishing. Alternatively, hike Waikatipu Lake on the trails that twists around its long shore or just loose yourself in the gorgeous surroundings.

 

On a different day, stop by one, or a few, of the region's vineyards to sample some of the excellent local produce. A little wine tasting may also be combined perfectly with a visit to Arrowtown, an old gold rush town, where the one or other nugget may still be hidden in the earth or the river.

 

Queenstown is also a great basis for exploring the spectacular landscapes of the celebrated fiords Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound. Especially the fifteen kilometres long Milford Sound, part of the Fiordland National Park, is considered one of the South Island's principle attractions.

 

The drive out along Milford Road is an experience all by itself. Cruise along 119 kilometres navigating the fiord lands with slack jaws and gaping eyes. Finally, the road disappears into the 1.2 km long Homer Tunnel before emerging into a lush rainforest valley that dips down to the Milford Sound.

 

It is a remote, a different universe that unites the best of two worlds: Water and Mountains. Spot seals, penguins and dolphins. Fill your lungs with the clean ocean and mountain air and your eyes with impressions of this rugged, unspoilt and diverse nature paradise!
