The cosy and quaint Alte Landhaus graces the fertile Schoemanshoek Valley in the Little Karoo. The name translates into Old Country Manor. The building radiates a wonderful flair and has been furnished with precious antiques.

 

The Country Lodge exudes a lovely charm, framed by lush gardens and adorned by select decorations. Incidentally, despite the authentic ambience, the building has only been erected in 1996.

Countless bird species may be observed in the vicinity and occasionally even cheetahs. Moreover, the lodge keeps a number of majestic ostriches. Inhale the valley’s sweet fragrance and rest your eyes on the lovely panorama.

 

On a cold or rainy day, settle down in the cosy lounge at one of the two fireplaces, a good book and fine wine at hand. The dining area has been decked out in an African style. The thatched roof underpins the country flair.

 

In the summer months, a sweeping terrace invites you to spend long hours outside, contemplating the twinkling stars above and indulging in the cuisine’s superb delicacies.

 

Both national and international specialities are being served. Moreover, the cuisine encourages you to try some of the local meats, like ostrich or a juicy Karoo Desert steak or fresh fish.

Living

The Altes Landhaus Country Lodge offer only ten lovingly and individually furnished rooms and suites. Generously designed, the units are decked out with a warm colour scheme and select decorations like read more » elaborate embroideries.

 

The suites are at once nostalgic and exceedingly luxurious. The distinguished guests may choose between the Pool Suite, the Deluxe Suite and the Honeymoon Suite as well as the Terrace Suite, Garden Suite and Executive Suite.

 

All of the units offer an elegant ensuite bathroom, air-conditioning and heating, ceiling ventilators, TV, a safe and a telephone. Some of the units additionally boast underfloor heating and others a romantic whirlpool.

 

The majority of the rooms include a separate living room, some even an additional dressing room and a private terrace. On a hot day, an inviting, turquoise-blue saltwater swimming pool is just perfect for a refreshing splash and a cold sip at the pool bar.

 

Of course, provisions have also been made for a cold night: A crackling fire casts its flickering light through the comfortable lounge – add a good book and a glass of finest South African wine and the cold weather outside is easily forgotten.

 

Cherish the scenic setting, take a long, lazy sunbath on your private terrace and start each day slowly with a drawn-out breakfast. The Alte Landhaus, its quaint and cosy style, invites you to indulge in South Africa’s splendour and relax body, mind and soul!

The Garden Route is an intriguingly diverse region that offers countless activity options. Explore the surroundings on long hikes or mounted securely atop a sturdy horse.

 

Visiting the sights in and around Oudtshoorn is a must. Drive out to the Swartbergpass and explore the Cango Caves, presumably the world’s largest, certainly the world’s most beautiful drip stone caves.

 

A number of ostrich farms offer tours and entertaining demonstrations and the Cango Wildlife Range is certainly worth a visit. For a spell of beach thrills, shopping or forest hikes, we recommend visiting the graceful nearby towns Knysna or Plettenberg Bay.

 

The historic Mossel Bay offers yet another set of diverse and adventurous activities, especially for sports enthusiasts. And always – the panoramic landscape provides the stunning backdrop!
