One of the highlights is the annual Great Migration. From July to October, millions of gnus and zebras defy countless adversities and reach the northern Serengeti. It is an experience so overwhelming it sticks in the memory. Another one of Tanzania’s celebrated attractions is the Ngorongoro Crater, also located in the Serengeti National Park. The ancient crater rim forming a natural sanctuary, the wildlife population density is tremendous and the animals can be observed year-round.

The Selous Game Reserve and the Tangerine or the Katavi National Park are great alternatives to the more frequented destinations. Offering memorable wildlife experiences, visitor number are significantly lower. In total, Tanzania features eleven highly diverse national parks, all of them worth the while.

The island Zanzibar forms a stark contrast with the main land’s rugged wilderness. Instead of infinite savannah, the island is characterised by picture-perfect beaches and idyllic bays – perfect for a seaside holiday beneath Africa’s hot sun. Zanzibar is located at only twenty minutes’ flight-distance from the county’s largest city, Dar es Salaam. The island is a wonderful option for a beach extension after a holiday spent in the wilderness on safari.

However, Zanzibar has more to offer than just beaches. The island’s capital, Zanzibar City, is well worth a visit. The historic centre, which is knows as Stone Town and graced by countless attractive buildings, was declared a world heritage site by the UNESCO. The unusual buildings were erected with blocks of white coral and decorated by rows of balconies. Some of the highlights are the famous British explorer Livingstone’s old house and the Anglican Cathedral, which was built on the site of the former slave market. Traditional Dhaus still glide past landmarks like the Sultan’s Palace or the Beit-el-Ajaib, the house of wonders. Turn a corner and discover palaces, fortresses and bathhouses set amongst spice plantations and lush tropical green – Zanzibar is a feast for the senses!

Former capital and most important city in Tanzania, Dar es Salaam is the doorway to Tanzania. Apart from being the centre of all economic activity, Dar es Salaam features an international airport that serves as an important hub for many European flights.

INTOSOL offers you a choice of two different approaches to discover Tanzania: You may fly to each of the safari destinations or alternatively tour the country with a personal guide introducing you to the wonders of Africa.

A Private Guided Safari starts at the airport, where your guide and driver will pick you up before starting the personalised safari adventure. Guides are carefully chosen and among the best in Tanzania. The guides are always proficient in the language you request, be it English, German or another language. INTOSOL takes great care in choosing its local partners, paying attention to every detail like the immaculate condition of the vehicles used. Nothing less than comfortably equipped, well maintained and late model all-terrain vehicles are accepted. The great advantage of the Private Guided Safari is the in-depth experience of the country, its people and culture. Naturally, transfer times on the ground are considerably longer than a direct flight but the extra time spent on the road is put to good use. With your knowledgeable guide at your side, it is both entertaining and educative

At the lodges and camps, you may choose whether you prefer to go on safari with your personal guide, by now a friend, or join the open Landrover safaris offered by the hotel.

The best time to travel to Tanzania is any time of the year: No rainy season or other climatic limitations affect the holiday experience. However, the diverse landscapes create different climate zones. The entire coastline, including Zanzibar, features a warm, tropical climate. On the islands, a cool breeze brings relief most of the days. The central plateau is at an average altitude of 1,200 metres. Daytime temperatures can be high but the nights are surprisingly cold. The area of the great lakes, the Lake Victoria and the Lake Tangayika, is characterised by high humidity. The Usambara Mountains, northwest of Tanga and not far from the Kilimanjaro, feature a mild climate. The only regularly occurring heavy rainfalls can be expected on Zanzibar and Pemba Island in April and May. It is recommendable to avoid a visit to the islands in these two months and rather visit between June and November, the driest season.

One of Africa’s most inspiring events takes place in the northern Serengeti, Tanzania. The famous Great Migration brings millions of gnus and zebras to richer feeding grounds. It is sensational to witness, an experience that no nature enthusiast will ever forget.
