Ho Chi Minh City Travel Experiences -

Vietnam’s Pulsating Heart and Soul

Full of life, mayhem on the streets and the roaring thunder of motors and voices and loudspeakers – such might be the first impression of the seven million city Ho Chi Minh. It is the pulsating heart of Vietnam, full of bristling energy and one of the most fascinating urban destinations in Southeast Asia. Formerly known as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City’s turbulent history is reflected in the many contrasts that nowadays stand side by side and unite tradition and modern age. Historic buildings lean trustingly into contemporary high-rise. Located at the heart of the Mekong River Delta on the banks of the Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City was already praised centuries ago as the Pearl of the Far East. Today, the city is a booming economic centre, the streets alive with racing motorbikes and bustling crowds. However, look beyond the first row of oncoming motorbikes and you discover a city that is incredible rich in Vietnamese culture, architecture and history, laced with the remnants of American and French influences. The Reunification Palace, apart from its architectural value, takes you on a ride through the city’s history: During the Vietnam war, the imposing buildings served as the presidential palace; later in 1975 it became the site for the official reunification of the country. The name, of course, pays homage to this hugely important historical event. In the native local language it is called Hoi Truong Thong Nhat. Incidentally, the interior still boasts its original design. Not far from the Palace, the Roman-Catholic cathedral Notre Dame is a hallmark of the French Colonial era. The forty metres high brick towers still stand proud and the church regularly celebrates Mass. Cholon is Ho Chi Minh City’s china town and translates into “big market”. Living up to its name, Cholon is full of bustling crowds visiting the countless stores and restaurants. The fifth district furthermore sports beautiful Chinese temples like the Buddhist Quan-An, dedicated to the goddess of mercy. However, no visit to Ho Chi Minh City would be complete without having perused the Ben Thanh Market west of Le-Loi-Street. The vendors in the 10,000 square metres large hall offer everything imaginable and possibly even a little bit more. Time to turn to the dark years of Vietnamese history: The War Museum displays the reasons, horrors, facts and consequences of the Vietnam War from the perspective of the Vietnamese people. Experience the dynamic metropolis Ho Chi Minh City and allow INTOSOL to weave the city into you Vietnam itinerary. Go on an unforgettable holiday!
