The Chobe National Park is one of planet’s most inspiring regions – a natural wonder that leaves its mark on the soul. The third largest national park in Botswana, Chobe is incredibly diverse. The Chobe National Park was established in 1968 and is 11,698 square kilometres large. The northern border is formed by the Chobe River, the western boarder by Linyanti River and in the south-west, it is limited by the Moremi Reserve. Chobe features four completely distinct ecosystems, which account for the amazing variety of species in this region. The Chobe River, especially near the town Kasane, creates a lush environment of marshlands teeming with wildlife. This region is practically stamped “guaranteed elephant sightings”. It is famous for the highest elephant concentration in Africa. Particularly large numbers visit the region during the dry season from August to November. The Chobe elephant population is nomadic. The animals migrate more than 200 kilometres from the Chobe River, which they inhabit during the dry season, to the southeastern region of the park, where they spend the rainy season. The Chobe National Park is ideal for photo safaris, as the game tends to congregate around the few remaining sources of water in the dry season. The breeding time for many of the water birds falls into the same period, making it an El Dorado for bird watchers. All the services are in place; the Chobe Park is well developed and experienced in receiving guests. The Savuti Region forms a stark contrast with the lush conditions created by the Chobe River. The Savuti is dominated by an extremely harsh, dry climate with hot days and cold nights. However, the region is perfect for observing Africa’s graceful big cats. Savuti is a legendary safari destination, being especially well known for its abundance of elephants, lions and hyenas. Furthermore, jackals, wild dogs, leopards and cheetahs are frequently spotted. The exceptional wildlife experiences go hand in hand with luxurious safari accommodations. Despite the harsh setting, the lodges and camps are extremely comfortable. A fine example is the Savute Safari Lodge. A part of the Linyanti River Region, the so-called Linyanti Marsh, also lies within the Chobe National Park.
