The Tshukudu Bush Lodge is set spectacularly atop the hills of the malaria-free Pilanesberg National Park, about 1650 metres above sea level and close to Sun City. The name Tshukudu translates into Place of the Rhinoceros.

One hundred and thirty two steps lead up a rocky cliff face. Having braved the climb, you arrive at the six beautiful cottages.

 

Your reward is a breathtaking view that is best enjoyed from your private terrace. From up here, you can see almost the entire national park, which has a size of 550 square kilometres.

 

It is a home to more than 80 animal species – among them the Big Five – as well as 360 different kinds of birds. With just a little luck, you will spot an elephant, a giraffe or one of the rare mountain leopards.

 

In fact, the exceptional location atop the extinct volcano greatly increases the chances to see one of the elegant leopards.

 

Please note: Due to the Tshukudu’s dramatic location atop the rocky cliff, the lodge is not suitable for guests with walking disabilities.

Living

Each one of the six luxury Tshukudu Cottages is equipped with every necessary and unnecessary comfort imaginable, from a walking stick to a bubble bath.

 

The guest will find a well-stocked mini-bar, a safe, nature guidebooks, magazines, a hairdryer and a tea and coffee machine at his or her disposal.

 

You will not find radios, telephones or TVs in Tshukudu , because the acoustic focus is meant to shift to the rustling of the wind, leaves and grass as well as the animal calls in the distance.

 

Your living room sports a cosy fireplace. From the bathroom in your cottage, you can directly observe the animals that come to a small waterhole for a drink.

 

Enjoy the beautiful African bush and listen to the animal sounds. It is a wonderful way to relax and to forget the stress and tension of everyday life.

Activities

The Pilanesberg is Africa’s second biggest national park and, unlike the Kruger Park, is completely malaria-free.

 

On a game drive accompanied by an experienced guide, you can observe the “Big Five” read more » (lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes and rhinoceros) and numerous other animal species, among them stunning 360 different kinds of birds.

 

Even the endangered wild hound found a home at Pilanesberg. It is a very special experience for Africa enthusiasts to join a guided walking safari or to observe the animals at the waterhole near the Tshukudu Bush Lodge.

 

Close to the Tshukudu Lodge is Sun City, Africa’s Las Vegas. On a day trip, you can visit a crocodile farm, go into a casino or play golf on one of the world’s best golf courts.

 

Alternatively, go to the movies or to a theatre, enjoy the wave pool or the artificial beach, which has been stunningly designed like a tropical wilderness straight out of the Jungle Book.
