Living

The Cliff Lodge on the Garden Route offers its distinguished guests five highly comfortable rooms, a guest house and the uniquely graceful and luxurious Ocean Suite.

 

The five non-smoking rooms are read more » comfortable furnished and all boast a magnificent ocean and mountain panorama. For example, the North Room overlooks both the surf rolling up onto the beach and the soaring mountains in the backdrop.

 

Kick back and relax on the large sundeck. However, it pays to keep your eyes open. Quite frequently, whales are spotted out on the ocean. The ensuite bathroom features a separate bath and shower.

 

The recently renovated and modern styled South Room offers a private terrace commanding a wonderful view of the Cape Peninsula Mountains. The bathroom offers an extra large shower and the cosy bed may be used as a king-size or split into two individual beds.

 

The East Room has been decked out in a colonial style and radiates a welcoming ambience with its beige and black colour scheme. Again, you decide whether you would like to have the beds configured as two singles or a king-sized. The spacious, wooden deck sports a magnificent view of Walker Bay.

 

Down by the pool, the West Room also offers an ocean panorama and a quiet terrace. A mini bar, tea and coffee maker and an ensuite form part of the facilities. The bed may be arranged as a king-sized or two individuals. And the refreshing pool is just half a hop away!

 

The unique Ocean Suite is a highly luxurious and most generously proportioned Penthouse Suite boasting a striking view of the ocean. A separate lounge opens onto a private balcony that overlooks the natural splendour of Walker Bay and Cape Point.

 

Designed in an African style and comfortably equipped, the Ocean Suite features a mini bar, tea and coffee station, a TV and a CD player. The bathroom includes amenities for two and a separate shower.

Activities

The Cliff Lodge and the Garden Route offer a host of wonderful options that range from leisurely relaxation to exciting days, both amidst a breathtakingly beautiful environment.

 

One of the many highlights read more » is the spectacular Klipgat Cave, at just a short distance from the Cliff Lodge. Explorations have revealed ceramics from the aboriginal population, despite the floodings caused by climate changes.

 

Another recommendation goes to the Fynbos Farm, well worth a visit. Then again, you might prefer the simple pleasure of a long stroll along the beach, for example, from Gansabaai to De Kelder (7 kilometres).

 

Those who rather put their trust into the four sturdy legs of a horse than their own, may indulge in long horseback excursion through the Fynbos vegetation or along the beach.

 

Less than an hour away, Cape L’Agulhas (Cape of Needles) is set at the point where the Indian and the Atlantic Ocean officially meet. Marking the geographically important point, the lighthouse is the second-oldest in South Africa.

 

Alternatively, tour the many quaint little villages. Picturesque Moravian Mission Town boasts a magnificent church with the oldest, and most well-known, church clock in the South Africa.

 

Caledon is also located at just an hour’s distance from the Cliff Lodge. A great option for a cold day, indulge in the thermal baths, enjoy a spa treatments or challenge Fortuna at the casino.

 

Other attractions in the vicinity of Caledon include a brewery, dairy farm and a vineyard, all of which may be visited … including some sampling of the respective produce, of course!

 

De Kelders is your best option for observing whales from a close distance. Each year, between June and December, countless Southern Right Whales come to South Africa’s coast to give birth.

 

It is an inspiring nature show not to be missed. For those who prefer to stay on land, De Kelders’ high cliffs are a natural vantage point that commands a far-reaching view of the ocean.
