Fly-fishing is a discipline that requires considerable skill and practise: the perfect chance to try your hand at it! Or else, just take a walk through the bay or allow caring hands to pamper you with a massage.

 

Those serious about hiking may spend anything from two hours to five days exploring the surrounding wilderness. However, the day starts with a coffee on the terrace… if you like with the newspaper, maybe followed by a spot of kayaking.

 

The kayak may also be used to spend a day on the water. A great destination is the nearby salmon farm. Afterwards, point the tip towards Ratimera Beach and enjoy a romantic picnic lunch.

 

The unspoilt setting is also perfect for sailing. Termed eco-cruising, have unlimited fun without disturbing anything but the wind. And then, of course, there is a lot to learn about the diverse nature, the species and natural history of New Zealand.

 

For something different, tour the many vineyards that pepper these regions. The cellar doors are wide open and you are warmly invited to sample the superb local produce.

 

Fun may also be had on the ground or high up in the skies. A scenic helicopter or light aircraft flight allows you to admire the beautiful landscapes from a bird’s perspective.
